Email Campaigns Without MailChimp

Recently I’ve been looking at how some of the major sites are handling their email marketing. From what I can see there is a popular combination of Unbounce and MailChimp for handling things like landing pages.

Taking a closer look at what these services offer I don’t think they’re an exact fit for what I am looking for. Whilst both services seem to be very good, and both offer free plans I have a couple of concerns:

  1. MailChimp requires you to enter a postal address which is then included in all outgoing mailings. Whilst this may be a regulatory requirement in some territories, when you are just playing around with a concept you dont want all and aundry having access to this information.
  2. Unbounce is good, but the resultant pages are very complicated and quite large. I guess this is more of a purist point of view, but the pages produced by their wizard just see overly bloated to me. It is possible to create the same effect in far fewer lines of code.

For these reasons I’m going to take a look into what it would take to implement a cut-to-the-bone implementation that satisfies these same needs, but addresses my concerns.

Watch this space.
